I think it’s fair to say that it’s rare to find a great wave rider who also has the patience to be a great teacher. But that’s not the case with Richie Fitzgerald.

If you’re struggling to make that next bit of progress with your surfing, call him! Whether it’s getting out the back to surf those lovely green faces, picking the best wave for your level or getting past a fear problem, he’s the man.

Richie does pretty much whatever it takes to help you while also making you feel safe. If that means duck diving you and your board under a wave, or taking a huge dump of water on the head as he hangs onto your board, leaving you free to dive under, so be it. And when you are in the right place to catch the right wave, you’ll get the right tips, instruction and encouragement – and almost definitely some of your best waves to date.
